GOP sweeps Schoharie County and...

Republicans swept every seat in Schoharie County worth mentioning in voting Tuesday.
According to unofficial election results, GOP candidate for President Donald Trump won nearly 2-1-or better in every town over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Republican John Faso, running for Congressman Chris Gibson's seat, also won handily here and indications are that he'll defeat Democrat Zephyr Teachout in the 11-county 19th District.
Cliff Hay, longtime Schoharie County Democratic chairman, said he wasn't surprised by the results.
"It's always been heavily Republican here and it always will be," Mr. Hay said.
GOP Vice-Chairman Chris Tague attributed his party's local success to what he called the "Donald Trump phenomenon."
"People are fed up with the way things have been going. They're ready for a change and they want a new direction. I think Donald Trump got people voting who haven't voted in years."
Mr. Tague was cautiously optimistic that Mr. Faso would win the 19th District.
With little more than 10 percent of the vote in, Mr. Faso was leading Ms. Teachout almost 2-1.
"I think John ran-and won here-on the issues," Mr. Tague said. "The last day of the campaign? What was she campaigning on? Global warming. When the concerns here are jobs, taxes, the economy...she has no idea what the issues are in upstate New York."
In the 51st Senate District, 30-year incumbent Jim Seward also crushed his opposition, Jermaine Bagnall-Graham locally.
In local races, Fulton, elected Thomas Conto for justice, and John Felitti for a council seat.
In Carlisle, Richard Smith was re-elected as town justice with 684 votes; he was both the Democratic and Republican candidate.
In the Village of Cobleskill, incumbent trustees Howard Burt and Thomas Johnstone were re-elected to their own seats with 694 and 658 votes respectively.
Both were unopposed.
In Broome, Roland Gilligan was elected justice with 290 votes and Richard Forney was elected councilman with 301. votes.
Both are Republicans and both ran unopposed.
