A heavy rain storm caused water to pool on sections of I-88 which led to a series of accidents on Oak Hill in the Town of Schoharie Monday evening.
In the end, the storm caused two cars and four tractor-trailers to leave the road, according to the State Police. No serious injuries were reported.
The first accident was called in at about 6:33pm, police said, as a car hydroplaned on the interstate. It was a simple winch-out and there was no damage.
About 11 minutes later, another vehicle hydroplaned into the median, according to police.
At 6:55pm, two tractor-trailers had trouble braking on the hill and jack-knifed into the median. It was a property damage accident, police added.
Hampered visibility led to the next accident at about 7:34pm, police said.
The driver of a tractor-trailer did not see the prior accident in time and attempted to change lanes late and began to brake. His truck was struck from behind by another tractor-trailer, causing both to jackknife and go off the road.
The interstate was closed in both directions for several hours starting at the Schenectady County line, according to police.
