Cobleskill Police last week arrested two men in connections with village car break-ins in June.
Charged were Josiah M. Holmes, 19, and James M. Norton III, 18, both of Cobleskill.
Police Chief Rich Bialkowski said the two tried to purchase video games, play stations and similar items from Wal-Mart.
“The person who owned the card found unauthorized purchases, and the store’s video camera picked them out,” Chief Bialkowski said.
Officers charged Mr. Norton with second-degree forgery, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree identity theft, and fifth-degree conspiracy.
Mr. Holmes was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of third-degree identity theft and once count of fifth-degree conspiracy.
The car break-ins occurred the night of June 17. Fifteen cars were entered on nine different streets in the village.
Chief Bialkowski said the investigation is continuing and expects further arrests this week.
Mr. Norton and Mr. Holmes were arraigned in Cobleskill Town Court and each was sent to the Schoharie County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail, $10,000 bond. They were to return to court Tuesday.
