DWI charges after truck plows into Schoharie house

12/6/2017

Schoharie family got a rude awakening Saturday when a truck plowed into their Barton Hill Road home just before midnight.
No one was injured in the bizarre 11:35pm crash, but because of damages to the home, the Groff family can’t stay there; the American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance and support as well as comfort kits and, to one 8-year-old child, stuffed animals.
State Police arrested 54-year-old Timothy S. Sims of Herkimer in the crash, charging him with DWI and criminal mischief fourth.
Police gave this account of the incident:
Mr. Sims was operating a 2004 Ford F350 and traveling west on Barton Hill when the vehicle left the roadway on the north shoulder, striking a tree and two lawn tractors before coming to rest against the home at 318 Barton Hill Road.
Mr. Sims, who was uninjured, was arrested on the scene and arraigned before posting cash bail.
He was to return to Schoharie Town Court.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Offfice, National Grid, and emergency squads and fire departments from Scho-Wright, Middleburgh, and Central Bridge.
