OES, SALT plan drill for disaster volunteers

2/21/2018

Interested in helping local agencies learn how to manage volunteers in the next disaster?
Schoharie County’s Office of Emergency Services and SALT Development are looking for you.
Next Tuesday, February 27, at Fusion Community Church in Cobleskill, OES and SALT will hold a volunteer disaster preparedness exercise from 11am-1:30pm.
The drill will simulate connecting spontaneous volunteers with agencies that might need their help during a disaster, iinterviewing them for opportunities that meet their interests and skills, providing safety training, and issuing volunteer IDs.
The drill will be a way for potential volunteers to learn how they can best serve their community through a mock disaster scenario.
It will also help OES and SALT ensure that their systems are up-to-date and prepared to organize an effective volunteer reception center in the event of a disaster.
To participate, arrive at Fusion any time between 11 and 1:30pm.
No pre-registration is required.
Refreshments will be served and all levels of volunteer experience are welcome.
