The Cobleskill-Richmondville school board is looking for you.
Two seats on the board become vacant this spring, and so far, no candidates have stepped forward.
And the deadline for filing petitions is Monday, April 16. Petitions must have 25 signatures of qualified voters in the district.
If no one files, write-in candidates would win the May 15 election.
Incumbents Dan Schulte and Melissa Bartlett aren’t seeking re-election for three-year terms, according to Superintendent Carl Mummenthey.
Board President Bruce Tryon said he’s talked to as many as 30 possible candidates, but no one wants to make the leap.
“We still have time,” Mr. Mummenthey said Monday night. “We’ll have to cast a wide net.”
Board members, who advise the superintendent and help make school policy, meet twice per month, unless there are special meetings.
New board members receive training from the State School Boards Association and also advice from current board members.
“It’s a great team, and you get a lot of support,” Mr. Mummenthey said.
He urged anyone interested to contact his office at 518-234-4032 or talk to any board member.
Besides Mr. Tryon, Mr. Schulte and Ms. Bartlett, board members are Susan Strasser, Mary Black, Maggie Pryor and Steve Philbrick.
