State Police: Crash victim was wearing seat belt

6/13/2018

State Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of a Route 20, Town of Sharon accident that claimed the life of a 10-year-old Connecticut boy.
However, a preliminary investigation by the Troop G Collision Reconstruction Unit has determined the injuries sustained by Perrin Delorey were “consistent with him being properly restrained with a seat belt in the rear seat at the time of the collision.”
Initial State Police reports said Perrin was not wearing a seat belt in the Sunday, June 10 two-car crash just east of Leesville.
The family contended he was.
Subsequent State Police releases removed all references to who in the 3pm crash was or wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
Perrin died Wednesday at Albany Medical Center as the result of head and internal injuries.
Five people were injured in the accident and two, including Perrin, were airlifted to AMC.
The rest were transported to AMC by ambulance.
According to State Police:
A 2016 Mini Cooper operated by James C. Delorey, 49, of Westport, Connecticut, was traveling eastbound and for an unknown reason, crossed over the center line and into the path of a westbound vehicle, resulting in a head-on crash on Route 20, just east of Leesville at about 3pm.
Sharon Springs Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, where volunteers found passersby in the road, performing CPR on Perrin.
They also found Sherman W. Day, 63, of Mohawk, the operator of the westbound vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet pickup, injured and pinned in his vehicle. He was freed using the Jaws of Life.
Mr. Day was airlifted to AMC with head and neck injuries. A second passenger in the truck was evaluated at the scene and but uninjured..
Mr. Delorey was transported to AMC with unknown injuries.
Angela H. Ryan, 47, of Westport, Connecticut, a front seat passenger in the Mini, was transported to AMC with spinal and rib injuries.
State Police said Thursday that their investigation into the crash is ongoing.
