Schoharie County gets ready to celebrate the 4th

Celebrations all across Schoharie County will observe Independence Day tomorrow, July 4.
One event will be in Sharon Springs, two are set for Cobleskill on is in Gilboa and a fifth will be at the Old Stone Fort in Schoharie.
The Sharon Springs celebration will come first, with entertainment starting at 9am and a parade at 10am.
The parade, whose theme is Music of America, will start at Dairyland on Route 20, march west to Chestnut Street and end at the athletic field off Chestnut.
Route 20 will be closed in both directions from 9:45 to 10:45. There will be detours for traffic.
After the parade, there will be a chicken and rib barbecue and entertainment at Sharon Springs Central School.
Last-minute parade entries will be accepted with a registration for, which is available at www.sharonspringschamber.com/events or by calling Chamber President Ron Ketelsen at 518-860-5513.
Gilboa’s July 4 parade begins at 12:30pm at the Flat Creek Baptist Church. Anyone interested in joining the parade should be at the lineup at noon.
The Old Stone Fort will host living history activities, including readings of historical documents of the Revolutionary War era beginning at 1pm.
There will also be 13 historic toasts.
The outdoor observance is free, and participation by the public is welcome and encouraged.
The Village of Cobleskill Rec Commission and Friends of the Fourth activities start at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds with activities beginning at 1pm.
Vendors, bouncy houses, kids’ activities and food will be at the Fairgrounds.
A baby contest at 2:30 will have two classes: up to 23 months and ages two to five.
Music will be provided by Keller’s Entertainment from 5pm to 10pm.
There will be a downtown parade at 5pm, and fun at the Fairgrounds will continue until 9pm, when there will be fireworks.

Turning Point 1777 will hold its third annual “Independence Alive!” observance beginning at 3pm in Cobleskill’s Centre Park.
There will be readings of historical documents, including the Declaration of Independence and a flintlock firing demonstration as part of a presentation about the role of Schoharie County in the Revolutionary War.
The event, which is free, also offers a chance to sign an oversized copy of the Declaration of Independence.
