SUNY Cobleskill’s Dairy Cattle Judging Team swept the prestigious international Dairy Judging competition at the 178th Royal Highland Show, winning both first and second places.
Competing in teams of two, first place was awarded to Josh Chisholm and Kennedy Crothers, while second place was taken by Matt Currie and Kaylah Gulley.
The participating students hailed from several SUNY Cobleskill programs including Animal Industry, Animal Science, and Agricultural Business Management.
The Royal Highland Show is the flagship event of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, founded in 1784.
The four-day event is the pinnacle of the agricultural calendar involving over 2,150 livestock competitors with over 6,500 animals. The show draws competitors, visitors and media from all over the world.
“Congratulations to these exceptional students and their dedicated advisor.
Their training and diligence is an outstanding example of their SUNY Cobleskill education and spirit in action,” said President Marion Terenzio. “We are very proud of you.”
“I am beyond excited and proud of our extraordinary team. Their dedication and hard work is an inspiration. What a thrilling year this has been for all of us,” said Dairy Cattle Judging Team advisor and instructor Carrie Edsall. “Thanks to all who supported us and made our participation in the Royal Highland Show possible.” The team staged several events to raise funds towards the cost of the trip.
After their double win, the team traveled on to the four day Luxembourg National Dairy Show, where the students had the opportunity to judge a young milking cow class and experienced local life with their host families.
In 2017, the SUNY Cobleskill Dairy Cattle Judging Team took home top honors at the prestigious World Dairy Expo dairy judging contest in Madison, Wisconsin.
The team also competed at the Eastern State Expo (The Big E) and at the All-American Dairy Show Judging Contests, placing 2nd at both events.
