Two Schoharie County officials have been arrested on charges involving a stolen vehicle that included multiple felonies for one.
State Police based in Latham filed the charges against Benjamin Cooper Thursday and James P. Schultz Friday after the case was turned over to them by the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office.
Mr. Cooper, 45, a Public Works administrator for the Schoharie County DPW, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property fourth degree, falsifying business records first degree, and conspiracy fifth degree, a misdemeanor.
Mr. Schultz, 37, and a Town of Schoharie councilman, was charged with conspiracy fifth degree.
Police said the arrests stemmed from an investigation which began after a former tenant of Mr. Schultz reported to the Sheriff’s Office that his vehicle was missing.
After further investigation, the vehicle was located in a metal scrap yard in the City of Albany.
Both men were issued appearance tickets to appear in the City of Albany Court on January 17.
