Summit Neighbors to focus on community revitalization

Summit Neighbors, a new community group formed to help improve the economic vitality of the Summit community, is already moving ahead after a successful first meeting at the end of February.
In late January, a flier was mailed to all Summit households, invited them to sign up by email to become part of the group and seeking their “help to improve [the] cohesiveness and economic vitality” of their community.
“It worked quite well,” said Summit Neighbors member Wayne Stinson.
“There was an immediate response and the contact list continues to grow.”
At their first meeting, Summit Neighbors agreed to take on a community revitalization effort and “We will be cataloging properties which appear to be eligible for blighted properties remediation through the auspices of the Mohawk Valley Land Bank,” Mr. Stinson said.
Properties eligible for remediation through the MVLB are first investigated by a town code enforcement official and then submitted to the county-level Blighted Properties Selection Committee for their evaluation and subsequent submission to the MVLB.
Summit Neighbors will meet again Wednesday, March 13 at 6:30pm at Mr. Stinson’s home, 108, Southmeadow Drive. to continue this and other revitalization efforts.
Summit residents who would like to learn more and be added to the group’s email list should email scfpg@midtel.net.
