June goal for Barnerville bridge reopening

Closed for more than a decade, the Barnerville bridge across Cobleskill Creek is expected by June.
Schoharie County Department of Public Works Commissioner Dan Crandell said Tuesday it will be another four to six weeks before work, including setting the deck pans and site drainage and restoration is finished; right now, he’s waiting for the nights to warm up—essential for the concrete to set—before calling back the crews.
“It’s an important link for emergency services,” Mr. Crandell said, and one he wants to get back before work on the nearby Caverns Road bridge begins.
He expects design bids for that job to go out within the next month or so, but because of the process, it’ll be another year before work, expected to be completed by the end of 2021, begins.
Barnerville neighbors and friends are already getting ready to celebrate their bridge’s opening.
Hope Coons, a member of the Barnerville Methodist Church, said they’re planning a party to mark the event.
