Motosports, RV park proposed for Carlisle

A project that would build a motorsports park and RV campground on Lykers Road is generating considerable interest in the Town of Carlisle.
Carlisle’s Planning Board will continue a public hearing on the proposal from James Slaughter, owner of Diamond Back Motor Cross, at its next meeting Tuesday, April 9, 7:30pm at the town hall.
Carlisle doesn’t have zoning, said Planning Board Chairman Art Graulich; it’s up to the Planning Board to approve or disapprove the proposal and if needed, set requirements for things like screening or noise control.
“It’s a nice, well-developed plan,” Mr. Graulich said. “We don’t have much of a problem with it.”
Tuesday’s hearing is a continuation of one held in March that drew a large crowd; it was left open to give residents more time to consider and comment on what’s being called Racer Camp RV Motorsports Park.
Mr. Graulich said so far, most of residents’ concerns have focused on noise and the steps developers will take for abatement.
Traffic and the loss of a popular fishing and hunting spot have also been discussed, he said, but developers said they’d still allow fishing and hunting on the 145-acre parcel.
Contacted through a Racer Camp page of Facebook, developers said they “had no comment at this time.”
According to information on that page urging supporters to attend the hearing Tuesday, plans include “50 full hook-up campsites, ample parking, and lots of room for riding.”
“How about a campground that allows you to bring your dirt bike, ATV or UTV? Or a riding park where you could bring your camper for the weekend, or the week, or the month, or even all season? This is the concept we have proposed…”
According to the post, Racer Camp will feature a professionally-built motocross track that’s both challenging and safe for all riders.
No timeline is given for discussion, but the post suggests the track “might just get lucky enough to have races…for the Metropolitan Sports Committee in 2020.”
Also according to the Racer Camp Facebook page, “It is important that anyone who is interested in seeing this park get approved and operational, please come and show your support.
“Racer Camp owner/promoter Jamie-Yasmin Slaughter (Jamie Slaughter) currently operates the Diamondback Motocross Track [in East Durham] and is chairman of the James Msxcmxseries.
“We thank everyone who can support our new venture and with your support, we are sure we can get this off the ground in a big way.”
