Gifts rained down on Cobleskill-Richmondville at Monday night’s school board meeting.
Groups, businesses and individuals gave more than $5,500 to C-R for a wide range of projects and programs for students.
“At Monday’s meeting, the agenda was consumed with accepting gifts,” school board President Bruce Tryon said, acknowledging that C-R often receives gifts but rarely this many.
The gifts:
•$2,500 from C-R’s Friends of Music so that the Jazz Band and Select Choir can take a trip to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. The Friends also gave $350 for instrument repairs.
•Bassett 5210 gave $1,718.73 to start a community garden at Golding School.
•$400 from Carol Bader for the Backpack Program at the four C-R schools. The program provides food for needy families on weekends and holidays. This was also only the latest donated by Ms. Bader.
•$1,000 from the Rolphie Fund. The Rolphie Fund gives donations to all Schoharie County schools to help needy students in a variety of ways.
•A 250cc gas engine from Briggs & Stratton for the high school technology program.
Board members accepted each gift with appreciation.
“We at Cobleskill-Richmondville are so fortunate and blessed to be in a community that truly cares about and places an emphasis on education,” Mr. Tryon said.
“On behalf of the board, district and most importantly, our students, I thank the community for its generosity.”
