Food, fun and games at SUNY Homecoming Weekend

10/2/2019

The 8th annual Culinary Extravaganza this Friday, October 4, will kick off a weekend of celebration and festivity when SUNY Cobleskill hosts Homecoming & Family Weekend 2019 for alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends.
All are invited to this year’s Culinary Extravaganza, where top culinary talent from the region and beyond will work alongside the college’s Culinary Arts students to create one-of-a-kind dishes; proceeds supporting the College Annual Fund.
Annual on-campus favorites, including the Youth Fishing Derby, Antique Tractor and Engine Show, and Family Fun Fair are scheduled for Homecoming Saturday, and the SUNY Cobleskill Turf Club Annual Golf Tournament will be played at 9:30am at Cobleskill Golf & Country Club.
Tournament proceeds will fund SUNY Cobleskill Turfgrass Management students’ travel to the 2020 Golf Industry Show, in Orlando, Florida.
Independent registration is required for participation in the tournament.
In a ceremony at noon in Iorio Gymnasium, SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers Athletics will induct the Athletic Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019, and the College Alumni Association will present awards to six distinguished alumni.
The ceremony is open to the public.
Also at noon on Saturday, SUNY Cobleskill Grosvenor Art Gallery will open to the public.
Schoharie-based artist Kristen Defontes’ exhibit “After the Storm” will be on display, and guests are invited until 4 pm.
“After the Storm” features original works completed between 2015 and the present, and inspired by the 2011 impact of Hurricane Irene on Schoharie County.
Guests will be able to enjoy lunch at several locations on campus, including at food trucks in Suffolk (Knapp) Circle from 11am-4pm; among those serving will be Middleburgh’s The Hen and The Hound Bistro, and the Esperance-based Brett’s Fried, with Ty’s Taco-Ria and Stewart’s ice cream also on-hand.
Guests can enjoy on-campus dining at Twisted Whiskers, Prentice Hall, and Brickyard Brewhouse, and the Carriage House Café and General Store.
The annual Homecoming Parade will step off from the Fairgrounds at 5pm before moving to the campus for a bonfire, fireworks show, and Alumni Mixer; a farewell brunch at Coby’s Café and alumni lacrosse will wrap up the fun Sunday.
The College welcomes alumni and families to sign-in in Suffolk Circle on Homecoming Saturday, where campus maps will be available.
Guests attending the Culinary Extravaganza and Alumni Mixer should purchase tickets prior to Homecoming & Family Weekend. To register for individual events, including the golf tournament, and for complete information, visit https://web.cobleskill.edu/alumni/events/homecoming/.
