Schoharie speed forum 6-8 Thursday at firehouse

2/5/2020

A public meeting Thursday night will hear comments on speed limits on Routes 30 and 30A in Schoharie and Middleburgh.
The “listening forum” is at the Schoharie Firehouse and runs from 6-8pm..
It stems from concerns that the 50 mph limit on Route 30A from I-88 to Schoharie is too fast for a road with many driveways and business entrances.
Those concerns were raised in August; since then, others who drive Route 30 between Schoharie and Middleburgh believe the speed limit there is too high, also.
State Senator Jim Seward and Assemblyman Chris Tague will chair Thursday’s listening forum and take the results to the state Department of Transportation, which establishes speed limits.
Long a supporter of lower speed limits on those roads, Assemblyman Tague said he’s aware that others feel differently and wants to hear both sides at the forum.
Speakers at the forum will be limited to two minutes each.
