SALT coordinates effort ot make face masks

4/1/2020

Bassett Healthcare Network, Schoharie County Office Emergency Services and Public Safety Department, and SALT Development are coordinating an effort to collect, wash, sanitize and re-distribute protective fabric masks for health care professionals and first responders.
Two types of volunteers are needed:
• Volunteers to sew masks
Bassett Healthcare Network has created a pattern and instructions for two-ply and three-ply fabric protective masks which should be followed.
This will ensure consistent protection for healthcare workers and first responders.
For instructions on how to make the masks go to: https://www.bassett.org/covid-19/protective-fabric-masks or conduct an internet search for “Bassett Healthcare Protective Fabric Masks.”
Once the masks are complete, drop them off at one of the following locations: Heritage House front porch, 258 Main Street, Schoharie, or the Schoharie County Office of Emergency Services, 2783 State Route 7, Cobleskill, during normal business hours; there is a box in the vestibule area where masks can be dropped off.
If you are unable to drop the masks off at one of the above locations, call the SALT Office at (518) 295-7258 to arrange for a volunteer to pick up the masks that you have made.
• Also needed are volunteers to pick up and drop off masks.
Volunteers are needed to pick up masks from the Heritage House, Schoharie County Office of Emergency Services and from the porches of other volunteers who are unable to get to a drop off location.
These volunteers will then drop the masks off at a predetermined location within Schoharie County where they will be cleaned, sanitized, and packaged for re-distribution.
Volunteers are also needed to pick up the sanitized and packaged masks and deliver to sites around the county that are most in need of masks.
All volunteers who are signing up to pick up and drop off masks, must complete a Personal Identification Form before participating in the project.
Blank forms can be downloaded from the SALT website at https://www.saltdevelopment.org/covid/ and emailed to info@saltdevelopment.org.
Blank forms can also be found in hard copy in a folder on the Heritage House Front Porch at 258 Main Street, Schoharie, and also in the vestibule at Schoharie County Office of Emergency Services, 2783 State Route 7, Cobleskill.
Only registered SALT volunteers will conduct pickup/delivery.
Pick and drop off volunteers must wear SALT identification that is easily visible, which they will be issued once they complete and submit a personal identification form.
Pick and drop off volunteers must have a valid NYS license and a vehicle.
Social distancing must be practiced through wearing masks and gloves as well as keeping a minimum six- oot distance from all other people.
