A Delanson scientist has a product that reverses COVID-19.
The issue for John McMichael is getting that product to the ailing public.
Dr. McMichael developed his product, TML, more than 20 years ago, and it’s been effective in treating herpes and influenza viruses.
His Beech Tree Labs is a network of physicians, veterinarians and scientists around the country, and physicians in the group have been using TML for patients with herpes and influenza.
Then came COVID-19.
“We just asked, ‘Will it work?’ ” said Dr. McMichael, who has PhDs in immunology and virology. “We didn’t know whether it would work on COVID until we tried it. It was trial and error.”
Physicians in his group tried TML on COVID-19 patients––a few more than a half-dozen last week, up to 20 by Monday––“and it turned off the infection in every one,” Dr. McMichael said.
The process is simply drops on the tongue. There are no side effects, Dr. McMichael said.
Response to TML varies, although it works quickly. The longest recovery for one patient was a little more than two days.
But in one case, a physician with COVID-19, “there was complete resolution in four hours,” Dr. McMichael said.
“We couldn’t call it a cure, but it can put a dent in the virus infection.”
A California physician associated with Beech Tree Labs was the first to treat a patient; the closest to this area was on Long Island.
Dr. McMichael’s goal now is to reach the general public.
TML has passed two trials with the federal Food and Drug Administration, but those trials were for treating herpes and influenza. Dr. McMichael needs approval from the state or FDA for using TML for COVID-19.
He wants an audience with Governor Andrew Cuomo or high-ranking health officials to speed the approval process.
“Can we expedite this or do we have to go through all the normal steps that would take a year or more?” Dr. McMichael asked.
At the same time, he’s talking with advisors in Health and Human Services about how to proceed, and he’s also hoping to partner with a larger company that has the funds for volume production and could pay for a clinical trial that may cost $40,000.
Enthused about TML, Dr. McMichael is concerned about the approval process.
“We’re confident it’s safe and it works,” he said. “Now we have to prove it to the traditionalists.
“If it can help somebody, that’s the name of the game. And a lot of people need help these days.”
