Cobleskill-Richmondville Superintendent Carl Mummenthey got a raise in pay and a new five-year contract Monday night.
Praising the Superintendent’s leadership, board members approved the contract. Only Susan Strasser objected, though she too commended Mr. Mummenthey’s work.
The new contract calls for a salary of $174,180 starting this past July 1, when his previous contract expired. Mr. Mummenthey earned about $165,000 last school year.
Under the new pact, he’ll receive a 2.5-percent raise in July 2021 and another 2.5-percent raise in July 2022.
School board President Bruce Tryon noted that the board faced a “daunting task” of replacing former Superintendent Lynn Macan six years ago and eventually settled on Mr. Mummenthey, then superintendent at Jefferson.
“Carl has performed well above our expectations,” Mr. Tryon said. “We have a proven leader in the field of education with a long track record of success.
“The board’s vote clearly acknowledged that, and we are looking forward to working with Carl for the next five years.”
Mr. Mummenthey especially earned high marks leading C-R through the pandemic crisis.
Dr. Strasser agreed with all the praise, adding that she’s heard “so many compliments” about Mr. Mummenthey.
But she said that with COVID still a factor, questionable finances and C-R having to cut other positions, a raise now wasn’t appropriate.
Apologizing for her nay vote, Dr. Strasser told Mr. Mummenthey, “You don’t just deserve [the raise and contract], you’ve earned it.”
Mr. Mummenthey recognized and understood Dr. Strasser’s objection and added that he was “honored and humbled” by the board’s action.
