Drive-thru fire prevention

10/7/2020

The Cobleskill Fire Department is hosting a drive-thru fire prevention open house this Saturday from 9am to noon.
Volunteers usually have many activities at the firehouse to mark Fire Prevention Week, but COVID restrictions forced a drive-thru.
Families can pick up fire prevention backpacks, and fire trucks will be on display, and Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand.
This year’s fire prevention theme is “Serve up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.” With many families cooking at home these days, fire-fighters urge simple kitchen safety steps: turn pot handles inward when cooking, have a lid handy to put out grease fires and have an adult present when kids use the stove.
Cobleskill firefighters won’t be able to teach fire safety in schools this year, and they’re asking families to practice fire drills at home.
They’re also urging families to make sure woodstoves and chimneys are clean and safe and recommend checking smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
