Election 2020: We're still waiting
11/4/2020 |
By Jim Poole and Patsy Nicosia |
One thing’s for certain about Tuesday’s voting—and maybe only one thing:
Across the country and in Schoharie County, a record number of people cast their votes early and by absentee ballot.
After that?
It will likely be a week before we have anything resembling official results.
According to the Schoharie County Board of Elections, about 3,000 people cast their vote early at the County Office Building in Schoharie and another 2,000 submitted absentee ballots.
Though the Board of Elections was able to count and post the early votes and Election Day votes shortly after 9pm last night, it won’t begin counting the absentee and military ballots until next Tuesday or Wednesday; that process is expected to take until Thursday or Friday, November 12 or 13.
Governor Andrew Cuomo also weighed in on between the “lag” between voting and results.
“Before people get upset, let’s find out what the election results are,” he told reporters, referencing fears of protests Tuesday.
There are an estimated 18,133 registered voters in Schoharie County: 4,761 Democrats, 7,286 Republicans, and 4,199 not affiliated with either party.
Districtwide, it appears Assemblyman Chris Tague is leading his opponent, Democrat Betsy Kraat by more than 32,000-nearlt 18,000 and the New York Times has called the 19th Congressional race for incumbent Antonio Delgado, with 50 percent of the votes over Republican challenger Kyle Van De Water with 47.7 percent.
None of the local candidates have declared victory—or conceded as of press time.
Unofficial local results as of 4:30am Wednesday follow.
