Great changes in store at T-J

8/12/2021

Big changes are coming to the Times-Journal.
Starting next week, the T-J will be coming out on Thursday instead of Wednesday, giving staff a longer production window.
The change will also allow the T-J to add full color photos and ads throughout the entire paper, something it’s never been able to do before.
“The color alone makes this exciting,” said Publisher Jim Poole.
“We do a great job with photos; our photography is some of the best,” he said. “To be able to run all of them in color is really going to let us highlight that.”
The color and the Thursday publication come because the T-J will be printed by The Daily Gazette in Schenectady instead of Gloversville’s Leader-Herald, which is closing its presses.
It will be a big change for both staff and readers, Mr. Poole said, “but it comes with huge benefits."
The change in production schedule makes for new—later--deadlines:
10am Tuesday: Press releases, social news, Looking Ahead, library news, letters to the editor and correspondence. The former deadline was 10am Monday.
8am Wednesday: All other news, including sports and obituaries.
4pm Monday: Real estate, auto and Arts & Entertainment ads.
4pm Tuesday: All other ads, including legal and classified ads.
“Deadlines that are a bit later give readers and advertisers a little more time to get their material to us,” Mr. Poole said.
“It may take some getting used to, but we’re excited.”
