Troopers responding to a crash late Friday in Jefferson arrested the 22-year-old driver for DWI—and possession of an unregistered, loaded assault rifle.
Schoen Stocks was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a Class D felony; two counts of possessing a large-capacity ammo-feeding device, an A misdemeanor; possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor; and DWI, also a misdemeanor.
According to State police, they responded to a call on State Route 10, Jefferson, shortly before midnight Friday for a report of a one-car motor vehicle crash.
When Troopers arrived, they located a vehicle down an embankment and the driver, Mr. Stocks, being treated for minor injuries.
A Trooper interviewing Mr. Stocks could smell the odor of alcohol coming from his breath and observed signs of impairment.
He was administered roadside sobriety tests, which he failed, and was taken into custody.
Further investigation at the scene revealed that Mr. Stocks was in possession of two large capacity magazines and a loaded, unregistered assault rifle was located in his vehicle.
He was transported to SP Cobleskill, where he provided a breath sample of .16 percent BAC.
He was released on an appearance ticket and is due in Jefferson Town Court on October 4.
