Cobleskill’s December to Remember II is firming up, with the holiday celebration only six weeks away.
Committee members met at the Elks’ Lodge in Cobleskill Thursday to nail down details for the December 4 parade and events at the Sunshine Fairgrounds.
Last year’s December to Remember was a successful drive-thru at the Fairgrounds because of COVID protocols. This year’s celebration will be more traditional, COVID permitting.
Rose Keller is organizing the parade, which will line up at the Cobleskill Diner at 4pm and step out at 5pm.
The plan is for the parade and floats to proceed down Main Street and end at the Fairgrounds, where the floats will be available for viewing.
There will be music from the porch at Scholet’s Furniture, and there will be a tree-lighting in Veterans’ Memorial Centre Park as the parade passes by, said committee Chair Anna Marie Collins.
The park will be decorated, perhaps with small trees, “so that Veterans’ Park has a magical look,” Ms. Collins said.
At the Fairgrounds, vendors will be under the grandstand, as will Santa, who’ll meet with kids.
Ray Richards, pastor at Calvary Assembly of God, will work with two other churches and the Christian Club at SUNY Cobleskill for a Nativity scene at the Fairgrounds.
“A Nativity scene is something you don’t forget,” Ms. Collins said.
Earlier December to Remember plans called for a bonfire finale, but members Thursday nixed those plans for safety reasons, with the large wooden buildings at the Fairgrounds.
The committee is working on a different finale.
