The Schoharie County Historical Society will screen its documentary, “We Were There: Schoharie County's 9/11 Response, tonight, Thursday, at 7pm at the Wieting Theater, 168 Main Street, Worcester.
The documentary uses interviews, video, and photographs to share the experiences of local volunteers, along with EMS and law enforcement workers who responded to the September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.
The project was coordinated by SCHS President Curt VanSteele and Brian Head, a former employee of NY State Emergency Management Office.
Featured are:
• The late Kevin Neary, Richmondville mayor and a NYS Emergency Management Official.
• Chip Johnstone, retired NYS Police.
• John Copland, Cobleskill Fire Department volunteer
• Mike Hartzel, US Army (Ret) and current Schoharie County Office Of Emergency Services director.
The event is supported through a gift from Liz Daly, a former Queens resident who now lives locally and was eager to help the SCHS present the documentary to a larger audience; September plans for a screening at the Cobleskill-Richmondville High School were cancelled because of COVID concerns.
Several of the participants will be in attendance for the screening and a reception to follow, hosted by the Iroquois Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution also in the Wieting.
Admission is free. Any donations will be given to local first responder organizations.
