With up to 400 Thanksgiving baskets to put together and deliver next weekend, the Joshua Project needs help.
Yours.
About 30 members of the all-volunteer faith-based organization met Tuesday night to review plans to aid needy families for the holiday. They also set a work schedule for Friday and Saturday, November 19-20.
“We can always use more volunteers,” said Joshua President Pat Costello.
The schedule:
•Friday 10am, load turkeys at Walmart.
•Friday 6pm, pack 1,200+ bags of food at Fusion Community Church in Cobleskill.
•Saturday 9am, have drivers ready and load cars at Fusion.
“That’s a lot of food,” said Mr. Costello, referring to the Friday night packing.
“And we can always use more drivers.”
Drivers receive a specific route and deliveries go throughout Schoharie County.
Anyone who wants to help should call the Joshua Project at 518-937-2422.
With help from Catholic Charities and others, the Joshua Project’s done the Thanksgiving basket effort for years.
A family of four or fewer gets a turkey, two bags of food and a pie or other dessert.
A family larger than four gets a larger turkey, four bags of food and a pie or dessert.
“We’ve worked all this out,” Mr. Costello said.
Families apply for the food, he added, and “you can’t believe the number of applications coming in every day.”
