Schenectady woman sideswipes Esperance church

On Saturday, Cobleskill State Police arrested 32-yer-old Katie L. Gunther of Schenectady for DWI after they said she plowed into the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Esperance.
Ms. Gunther was charged with DWI-previous Conviction (a Class E felony), reckless endangerment, second degree (a Class A misdemeanor), and two counts of criminal mischief fourth degree (a Class A misdemeanor).
According to Troopers, shortly after 3am on Saturday, they were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Main Street in the Village of Esperance.
An investigation at the scene determined that Ms. Gunther was traveling westbound on Main Street when she exited the northern shoulder of the road and struck the United Methodist Church and an occupied home to the west.
Both buildings were heavily damaged.
While being interviewed by Troopers, Ms. Gunther exhibited signs that she was under the influence of alcohol, they said.
She sustained a head injury and was transported by helicopter to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
Following her release from the hospital, Ms. Gunther turned herself in at SP Cobleskill and was processed.
She was issued an appearance ticket for Esperance Town Court on February 16.
