Carlisle Post Offices closes
2/17/2022 |
By Jim Poole |
The Carlisle Post Office is closing temporarily.
The office, on Route 20 near the Crommie Road intersection, is closing while the US Postal Service looks for a new post office location.
The closure is effective Tuesday the 22nd.
The Carlisle postal customers––106 of them, according to a USPS website––will get their mail through the Sharon Springs Post Office.
Boxholders can get their mail over the counter at Sharon Springs but may be asked to provide photo ID.
Mail delivery to Carlisle street addresses will remain unchanged.
Those with street addresses, however, will have to go to the Sharon Springs PO for vacation mail, signature-required mail and oversized packages.
Although Sharon Springs will be providing Carlisle service, Carlisle residents needn’t change their addresses.
The Sharon Springs PO is open Monday-Friday 9a-11:30am and 1pm-4pm and on Saturday, 9am-11:30am.
The Carlisle office is closing because the Postal Service’s lease for the building has expired.
The Postal Service is looking for a new Carlisle location, but there’s no timetable for the site or a return to Carlisle service, according to a Postal official.
