If you’ve never heard of disc golf, think Frisbee and laundry basket.
Except more skill, incredibly popular—and with its own app.
The Town of Cobleskill is looking at adding a nine- or 18-station disc golf course to its under-utilized Doc Reilly Park.
Councilman Brian Lavine, who plays, and Supervisor Werner Hemple have walked Doc Reilly, scoping out a possible course for the rapidly-growing sport and they’re convinced the opportunity is there.
Mr. Lavine has played in disc golf tournaments both locally and across the Northeast; a tournament in the Town of Charleston drew players from as far away as Utica, he said.
“People want to play and people play all over the place,” he said.
Mr. Lavine said he’s also discussed the idea of a local course with Mark Hay, who designed the Charleston course, and they see plenty of opportunities for getting local businesses—which would benefit from increased tourism--involved as sponsors.
“Recreation areas are prime,” Mr. LaVine said. We need to develop some of them and bring people into our community.”
