Middleburgh Central School Superintendent Brian Dunn is leaving to become superintendent of the Pine Bush Central School District.
Mr. Dunn will begin the new job on July 1.
Monday, with help from Capital Region BOCES, the MCS school board began the search for his replacement.
They hope to have a new superintendent in place by September 1 and will fill the position with an interim superintendent over the summer. (See related story.)
Mr. Dunn becomes the second Schoharie County superintendent to take a new job; in January, seven-year Cobleskill-Richmondville Superintendent Carl Mummenthey accepted a job as superintendent in Niskayuna.
C-RCS is also working with Capital Region BOCES to fill that post.
Mr. Dunn is leaving MCS after four years.
School board President Pam Standhart thanked him for the time and energy he gave to Middleburgh and credited him for the academic strides MCS has made under his tenure.
Among those accomplishments: MCS went from being a school in need of improvement to the 12th best regional high school as ranked by US News & World Report.
“Brian Dunn is a proven leader and we are thrilled that he will be bringing his leadership and vision here to Pine Bush,” school board President Gretchen Meier said in a statement on the school’s website.
“We believe he is a great fit for out community and we look forward t welcoming him to Pine Bush.”
Mr. Dunn will replace interim Pine Bush Superintendent Donna Geidel, named after the sudden death of Superintendent Tim Mains on December 30, 2021.
Pine Bush Central School is about 2 ½ hours south of Albany and west of Newburgh.
