Warnerville wants Cobleskill sewer

About 20 years after hooking into the Village of Cobleskill’s water system, Warnerville may get sewer service as well.
Richmondville Supervisor Jeff Haslun earlier this month sent a letter to Cobleskill officials, notifying them about a Warnerville sewer study.
Hooking into Cobleskill’s sewage system is only one option, however; linking with the Village of Richmondville’s system is another, as is Warnerville having its own leach field or treatment plant.
Brendon Becker of Lamont Engineers is doing the study, which he expects to be finished this summer.
That would be in time for Richmondville to apply for state water grants available in the fall and also federal infrastructure funds, Mr. Becker said.
Richmondville is likely to pick the least expensive option.
“Costs will dictate where we go,” Mr. Haslun said.
Noting the study isn’t finished, Mr. Becker surmised the cheapest option would be hooking up with Cobleskill.
But that depends on how long the connecting line would be and what the Village of Cobleskill would charge, Mr. Becker said.
He estimated that Warnerville homes generate about 30,000 gallons of wastewater per day. Either the Cobleskill plant or the Richmondville plant could handle that amount, Mr. Becker said.
There have been several requests from Warnerville residents for sewer service, Mr. Haslun said. Mr. Becker said businesses planning to relocate to Warnerville have inquired about the service, too.
“It would certainly help some people,” Mr. Haslun said. “There certainly is a need.”
If Warnerville connects with Cobleskill, the sewer district would extend from Cobleskill-Richmondville High School eastward, Mr. Becker said.
If it links with Richmondville, anyone along the Route 7 corridor could hook into it, he added.
