From cookies to fossils, busy weekend ahead

Not-quite-summer continues Saturday with a chance to go fish and sample Schoharie’s iconic chocolate jumbles.
And that’s just for starters.

HUNGRY FOR HISTORY
Saturday, at 1pm, the Esperance Historical Society and Museum will be unveiling the William G. Pomeroy Foundation’s Hungry for History historical marker recognizing Schoharie County as the home of the chocolate jumble.
Everyone’s invited—especially local historians and local restaurants that serve the jumble—with the hope that all 16 towns will be represented.
Bring a batch of cookies to share; there will also be door prizes, recipes to share, and plenty of samples.

DON CONKLIN YOUTH FISHING DERBY
The Middleburgh Rod & Gun Club will hold its annual Don Conklin Youth Fishing Derby Saturday from 11am-1pm.
Gates open at 9am, Kids up to age 15 and their adults are welcome; bring your own bait. Catch and release.
There will be prizes for all, including longest, shortest, and most fish.
Hot dogs for kids and other snacks will be available by donation.

ARTS IN BLOOM FEST
The Schoharie Library will host a full day of fun with an arts and craft fair and activities, music by Becca Frame and Brian Shafer and Laura Gagnon, a quilt and flower show, and more, Saturday, from 10am-4pm.
Visitors will have a chance to make a woven bloom decoration with Sally Ziegler, a quilt-themed card or collage with fabric scraps, or paint or draw a picture to hang on the clothesline or take home.
Refreshments will be available from Muddaddy Flats from 11am-1:30pm.

55TH GALLUPVILLE GAS-UP
Saturday and Sunday will mark the first weekend of the Hudson-Mohawk Chapter of the Pioneer Gas Engine Association’s 55th annual Gas-Up, 10am-5pm at the Gas-Up grounds, 130 Murphy Road, Gallupville, off Route 443.
There will be antique steam, gas, and oil engines in action daily as well as antique military vehicles, cars, trucks, tractors, and more.
Barbecue Delights will be selling food and there will be homemade ice cream as well.
Free parking and admission; no pets.
The Gas-Up will continue June 17-18 as well.


GILBOA FEST
Finally, Sunday, from 11am-4pm, will be the Gilboa Museum & Juried History Center’s Gilboa Fest and 1903 Touring Car rally.
There will vendors, food, book signings and antique cars passing through.
The museum is located at 122 Stryker Road, off Route 990V, Gilboa.
