After decades leading the Sharon Springs Joint Planning Board, Mary Ann Larkin has retired.
Ms. Larkin’s term expired June 30. She has also resigned as JPB and ZBA secretary.
Wednesday, Supervisor Sandy Manko and councilmen named Ron Ketelsen, who’s been filling in as secretary, as Ms Larkin’s replacement as JPB and ZBA secretary.
That still leaves them with two JPB seats to fill, Ms. Larkin’s and that of Cindy Howell, who resigned a few months ago.
Ms. Manko and councilmen offered “heartfelt thanks” to Ms. Larkin for a lifetime of service to civic organizations, public events, and her church, in a resolution “Honoring Our Friend, Mary Ann Larkin, for Her Years of Service to the Town of Sharon.”
“The Town has been blessed with this talented individual, whose ethics have been to preserve, protect and foster all things that are unique and make the Town of Sharon and Schoharie County great places to live and work,” the resolution, written by Ms. Manko, reads in part.
“Mary Ann Larkin…is easily labeled by her devotion to all that is the best for the Town of Sharon” and “brought that same high standard of leadership” to the JPB and ZBA, as in her career as a realtor, guiding members with her knowledge, and “always keeping in mind the history and lifestyle of our community and the need to balance development while maintaining the ‘small town atmosphere.’”
“It is not possible, even with the best of our intentions, to thank her for all she has given us from the first to the last,” the resolution concludes.
“Thus, those of us who know her best, both public and private, and on behalf of our citizens and community, do humbly extend our heartfelt thanks.”
The town will present Ms. Larkin with a signed copy of the resolution.
