Schoharie County voters backed winners in their respective primaries in Tuesday’s election.
Local supporters also gave heavy support to Republican Marc Molinaro in his bid for the 19th Congressional seat, but Democrat Pat Ryan won a narrow victory.
County Republicans gave incumbent Pete Oberacker three-to-one support in his primary bid for the 51st State Senate seat, 1,959 to 513 for challenger Terry Bernardo.
Overall, Senator Oberacker survived in a close race, 10,398 to 9,371.
County Democrats gave similar support to Matt Castelli, seeking his party’s nomination as a candidate in the 21st Congressional District. Mr. Castelli defeated his opponent, Matt Putorti, 1,026 to 318 in county voting and 18,949 to 4,407 in the entire district.
Mr. Castelli will challenge incumbent Elise Stefanik in November.
Schoharie County overwhelmingly went for Mr. Molinaro in the special election to fill the 19th Congressional seat, vacated when Antonio Delgado was appointed Lieutenant Governor in May.
Mr. Molinaro received 3,176 votes to 1,642 for Mr. Ryan in county voting, but Mr. Ryan prevailed in the entire district, 68,807 to 63,846.
Congressman Ryan will represent Schoharie County through the end of the year, when the county moves from the 19th District to the 21st.
