A Middleburgh man with a long history of sex charges is due in court Friday for failing to report his personal email.
Michael G. Porter, 42, was arrested by State Police-Princetown, with assistance from the State Parole Department and charged with the Class E felony on August 27 after they said the registered sex offender failed to report his personal email address to the State’s Division of Criminal Justice Services.
He was arrested and processed at State Police-Cobleskill and issued an appearance ticket returnable to Middleburgh Town Court for September 9.
He is listed as a Level 3 sex offender.
Five years ago, on September 25, 2017, Porter was arrested for possession and disseminating child pornography followed an investigation by State Police and Homeland Security.
At that time, police accused Porter of electronically sending lewd material to minors, possessing child pornography, and having sexual contact with a child younger than 11.
He was charged with felony promoting a sexual performance by a child, possessing a sexual performance by a child, first degree sexual abuse and disseminating indecent material to a minor, and two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was arraigned in the Middleburgh Town Court and sent to the custody of the Schoharie County Sheriff on $10,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
On January 31, 2018, he was convicted of the crimes and sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years probation.
Before that, on May 30, 2010, Porter was charged with a two felonies after Troopers said he sent nude photos of himself to an 11-year-old Glenville girl.
At that time, Glenville Police said Porter allegedly sent text messages to the girl, attempting to engage her in conversation, but that she didn’t know him and didn’t return his calls.
Police said Porter then allegedly sent a nude picture of himself to the girl, which was discovered by her parent.
The girl’s phone was turned over to Glenville Police, where an investigator, as the victim, engaged Porter in conversation through texts, they said.
According to news reports at the time, the investigator told Porter he was a 13-year-old girl, and Porter allegedly then allegedly texted “her” a nude photo and repeatedly asked “her” for nude photos of herself.
Police said then that they tracked the phone Porter was using to the Cobleskill Wal-Mart, where they’d determined he’d purchased it.
After his arrest, he was sent to the Schenectady County Jail in lieu of $3,000.
