It's not fall yet, but December to Remember is coming

A parade, village-wide decorating contest, music, visits with Santa and more are in place for Cobleskill’s holiday celebration.
The December to Remember Committee on Thursday firmed up plans for the December 3 event and other holiday happenings.
The decorating contest––for homes and businesses in the village–-is new this year, with a top prize of $250, Committee Chair Anna Marie Collins said.
Her plan is for the village to be at its holiday best for the entire month, not just the 3rd.
Also new will be lights in Veterans Memorial Centre Park all month and holiday music from speakers––still to be installed––at the Community Plaza at the corner of Main and Division streets.
Part of the plaza will be upgraded this fall, Mayor Becky Terk said, and speakers could be installed then.
Another new feature will be holiday movies at the firehouse, running from 3pm to 4:30pm, according to Bill Johnson.
Rose Keller said the parade will march down Main Street to the park at 5pm. There, Santa and kids will light the Christmas tree.
The tree planted last year has died, but the committee plans to erect another in time for the celebration.
“Without the tree, it’s not going to look like Christmas,” Ms. Keller said.
After the tree-lighting, Santa will lead families back to the firehouse, where kids can decorate cookies, write letters to Santa and meet the man himself.
A sing-along is also in the works. Ms. Collins said area pastors will lead congregations in singing around the Little White Church in the park, probably the Wednesday before Christmas.
“We’re taking the idea of December to Remember and spreading it out,” Ms. Collins said.
The committee’s next meeting will be October 6 at the Elks Lodge.
