The State Department of Health reported another Schoharie County death from COVID Wednesday, bringing the total COVID-related fatalities to 39.
Eight Schoharie County residents tested positive for COVID on October 5 for a positivity rate of 11.5 percent or 10.4 percent over the last seven days; Tuesday, five tested positive.
Statewide, Tuesday, the positivity rate was 6.30 percent/6.74 percent over seven days.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the community risk level here, based on cases and hospitalizations, is “medium,” the test positivity rate is “very high,” and an average of six cases a day are being reported, about the same as two weeks ago.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least one in six residents have been infected, a total of 6,108 reported cases, the CDC said.
Because so many people are testing at home, the CDC has said tracking the number of hospitalizations gives a more accurate picture of COVID cases.
In the Capital Region Tuesday, 139 people are hospitalized with COVID, 10 of them in the ICU.
In the Mohawk Valley, 76 are hospitalized with nine in ICU.
Statewide, according to the state Department of Health, 2,425 people were hospitalized with COVID as of last Wednesday, an increase of 300 over the day before; 229 were in ICU, 86 were intubated, and 404 were discharged.
Statewide deaths last Wednesday were 19; total since the pandemic, 58,234.
The state is not providing hospital-by-hospital results.
Under the old, pre-home testing protocol, Schoharie County’s highest COVID numbers came in January of this year, when 76 people tested positive for a 15.9 percent positivity rate/16.2 percent over seven days.
Tracking COVID numbers in schools has also become more difficult; schools are no longer required to report COVID cases to the state, which took its COVID 19 Report Card tracking schools offline over the summer.
Meanwhile, according to the CDC, the number of those fully vaccinated here is just 58 percent; vaccinated and boosted, 33 percent.
For those 65 and up, 79 percent are fully vaccinated and 59 percent have been boosted.
Local vaccination numbers follow by zip code.
The first number is the percentage of residents receiving at least one COVID vaccination; the second is the percentage of those who’ve completed the series.
