Shots fired recently in West Fulton have people there on edge again.
Fired Friday February 10, the shots were reminiscent of similar incidents last March; West Fulton resident Brian Goodrich faces numerous charges for the 2022 shootings.
But whether he’s linked to the February 10 shootings is unknown. State Police are continuing their investigation.
Troopers were called to West Fulton Road in West Fulton shortly after 3:30pm on the 10th because of shots fired there, according to Trooper Stephanie O’Neil, public information officer.
So far, no arrests have been made.
One West Fulton resident was walking with two friends when they heard two or three shots fired on the 10th. Then, the person said, a bullet went right by them.
“We could have been in the line of fire,” said the person, speaking on the condition of anonimity, later adding that nobody could find the bullet.
The three friends hid behind the West Fulton Firehouse until one of them got a car, allowing them to escape.
Familiar with the 2022 shootings, the person wants resolution.
“We don’t want thoughts and prayers. We want action,” the person said.
Schoharie County District Attorney Susan Mallery, who’s prosecuting Mr. Goodrich for the 2022 shootings, did not connect him to the recent shootings.
“Every person’s innocent until proven guilty,” Ms. Mallery said. “We have an obligation, and State Police have to do due diligence.”
Mr. Goodrich faces 15 charges for the March 2022 incidents in which struck a West Fulton business, the West Fulton Firehouse and an above-ground pool in the hamlet.
The charges:
•Four counts of second-degree criminal mischief, D felonies.
•Four counts of third-degree criminal mischief, E felonies.
•Four counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, misdemeanors.
•Single counts of possessing a firearm in a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm across a public highway, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
Ms. Mallery said there’s an order for a psychological evaluation of Mr. Goodrich, and further court action may wait for the evaluation.
“We have to make sure someone’s competent before we proceed,” Ms. Mallery said.
No one was injured in any of the shooting incidents.
