The Town of Middleburgh could soon be offering a free drop-off site for old paint.
Supervisor Wes Laraway said Thursday that he’s been in discussions with GreenSheen, a Denver-based paint recycling and manufacturing company that opened a facility at the Rotterdam Corporate Park in 2022.
Mr. Laraway’s also toured GreenSheen’s Rotterdam facility; the paint drop-off would be free to residents—and the town.
According to GreenSheen’s website, they’re paid to collect latex paint from local communities and work in cooperation with DEC.
The company then recycles and purifies the paint into premium paint in a few primary colors, redistributing it to retailers for sale.
GreenSheen also has paint recycling facilities in Arizona, and Washington, and according to its website, has prevented about 20 million pounds of paint from entering landfills.
The Rotterdam facility created about 25 local jobs.
