A study about merging the Cobleskill Police with the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office will be the topic of a meeting on Tuesday, June 20.
Open to the public, the meeting will be at the Cobleskill Firehouse and start at 6pm.
Representatives of the Laberge Group, hired by the county Board of Supervisors, will explain how their study of the proposed merger will proceed.
The idea of a merger was raised earlier this year as a way to solve manpower shortages in the Sheriff’s Office and Cobleskill PD.
County Administrator Korsah Akumfi and Cobleskill Mayor Becky Terk will host the meeting.
Mayor Terk described Tuesday’s meeting as a listening session, and Mr. Akumfi said Laberge will likely seek input from the public.
“I think they’ll want people to describe their hopes and expectations of an efficient and effective police force,” Mr. Akumfi said.
“The more people who attend, the more input there will be from the people who will get the services.”
Although the meeting is in Cobleskill, Mayor Terk urged people outside of Cobleskill to attend because a merger would affect them, too.
