November races firming up

There are just five contested supervisors’ races on the ballot for the November 7 election with mayor’s races in the Villages of Middleburgh and Schoharie, according to the latest candidates’ list from the Schoharie County Board of Elections.
There are supervisor’s races in the Town of Cobleskill, Conesville, Fulton, Gilboa, and Richmondville.
All are for two-year terms.
In Cobleskill, incumbent first-term supervisor Werner Hampel (R) is being challenged by Nick Elder (D).
In Conesville, incumbent Bill Federice, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, (R,C) is being challenged by David Merwin Sr. (D).
In Fulton, incumbent Supervisor Phil Skwofoe (D) is being challenged by Robert Crosby (R).
Mr. Skowfoe is one of two Democrats on the Board of Supervisors; fellow Democrat Sandy Manko of Sharon is also seeking re-election.
In Gilboa, incumbent Alicia Terry, Conservative and a Gilboa United candidate, is being challenged by Tim VanGlad (R).
And in Richmondville, first-time Supervisor Jeff Haslun (R), is being challenged by Martha Fisher (D).
Supervisors running uncontested are: Don Airey (D,R), Blenheim; Steve Weinhofer (R), Broome; John Leavitt (R), Carlisle; Earl Van Wormer (R), Esperance; John Youmans (R, C) Middleburgh; Peggy Hait (R), Jefferson; Alan Tavenner (R), Schoharie; Earlin Rosa (R,C) Seward; Sandy Manko (D) Sharon; Harold Vroman (R,C) Summit, and Alex Luniewski (R), Wright.
All but Mr. Youmans are incumbents—Middleburgh Supervisor Wes Laraway is not running for re-election—and Middleburgh and Sharon’s races are for four-year terms; the rest are for two years.
Mr. Luniewski has previously been elected as an Independent.

Mayors
In the mayor’s races, Gary Hayes is challenging Tim Knight in Middleburgh.
Mayor Trish Bergan resigned in April and Mr. Knight is deputy trustee.
In Schoharie, where Mayor Larry Caza isn’t seeking re-election—he’s running for County Clerk—Colleen Henry and Clinton Manchester Jr. are running for mayor; in Richmondville, Mayor Carl Warner Jr. is running again, uncontested.
Mr. Caza has received both the GOP and Conservative endorsements for County Clerk; Republican incumbent Indy Jaycox is is retiring.
For County Treasurer, incumbent Mary Ann Wollaber-Bryan(R, C) is seeking a second four-year term; Republicans Matt Coltrain and Wells Farr are running for two county coroner positions.
