Gun charges for West Fulton shooter

Brian Goodrich is in trouble with the law again.
The man accused of shooting at West Fulton buildings last year was arrested in June for having guns in his home when he wasn’t supposed to.
Schoharie County District Attorney Susan Mallery is currently conducting a pre-plea investigation to get more information about the incident.
In March 2022, State Police said Mr. Goodrich fired shots from his vehicle into businesses and the West Fulton Firehouse. Although no one was injured, residents in the hamlet were fearful.
Troopers charged Mr. Goodrich with second- and third-degree criminal mischief and having a rifle clip holding more than 10 rounds. He was released on no bail.
State Police then seized about two dozen guns, none of them illegal, from Mr. Goodrich’s home. And he was under an Extreme Risk Protection Order, or ERPO, and was not permitted to have guns.
Learning of suspicious activity this spring, troopers went to Mr. Goodrich’s property and confiscated four more guns, she said.
Violating the ERPO led to his June arrest, Ms. Mallery said. The charge is a misdemeanor.
This time, Mr. Goodrich was released on bail.
The pre-plea investigation may lead to offering a plea agreement, though Ms. Mallery hasn’t offered one yet.
“We want to get as much information as we can,” she said. “It helps to make an offer. We want to make sure we have all the facts.”
Meanwhile, West Fulton residents remain concerned, and one asked about protection.
State Police routinely patrol the hamlet, Ms. Mallery said, and although the Goodrich case has been handled by troopers, Sheriff Ron Stevens said deputies can help, too.
“We do try to get patrols there as much as we can,” Sheriff Stevens said, adding that he’ll remind deputies about West Fulton.
Mr. Goodrich is due in court December 4 on the 2022 charges, she added.
If he’s convicted, the Probation Department would make a sentence recommendation, Ms. Mallery said.
