Schoharie DAR to celebrate Lasell Hall Saturday

The Schoharie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will celebrate 110 years of stewardship of Lasell Hall at an event this Saturday, August 26, from 2-4pm.
There will be tours of the historic building, light refreshments, and brief remarks by DAR members and others.
DAR members Kathleen Slater and Judy Warner shared a bit of Lasell Hall’s history with supervisors Friday, inviting them and the public to Saturday’s celebration.
Since 1855, Ms. Slater said, Lasell Hall has been a treasured piece of the Village of Schoharie’s history.
Before it was called Lasell Hall, it served as a dormitory for students to the Schoharie Academy.
In 1913, three years after the Schoharie Chapter of the DAR got its charter, owner Joshua Lasell deeded the building to the group.
Seeing a need in the community, in 1916, the DAR opened a free library there, until in 1963, when it outgrew the space, Ms. Warner said, the library was moved to Knower Avenue--where the Schoharie Free Library is planning its own anniversary celebration in September.
For many years, Ms. Warner said, Lasell Hall was also home to the Schoharie Easter Egg Museum created by retired librarian Mildred Vrooman and Elizabeth Warner.
All are invited to Saturday’s event.
