Schoharie County’s Flood Committee has opened applications for 2024 New York Power Authority settlement awards--$273,000 in total—to:
• Schoharie County First Responder agencies.
• Police Departments and the Sheriff’s Office.
• Town First Responder and EMS agencies.
• Local fire departments.
• Non-profits.
Deadline for applications is 4pm, Wednesday, December 13.
Awards will be made at the Flood Committee’s December 28 meeting, 5pm, in the Board Chambers.
For more information or a link to the applications, contact supervisors’ Clerk of the Board Judy Beeler at (518) 295-8347 or by email at Judith.beeler@co.schoharie.ny.us.
Flood Committee chair Don Airey said Thursday the 2024 application is essentially the same as ’23’s, when they also considered non-profits, including the Marathon for a Better Life and two churches, but in the end, divided the then-$200,000 between 20 mostly-FDs and rescue squads.
In 2022, 27 agencies submitted requests totaling $889,155 in “asks.”
The Flood Committee held off on getting this year’s applications out, anticipating an extra $73,000 from NYPA; the money is part of the 2018 FERC relicensing agreement between NYPA and Schoharie County.
