12/8/2023 |
A Middleburgh man is dead of multiple gunshot wounds and the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests in his murder.
Killed was Jeffrey E. Mickle, 41, of Middleburgh.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Mickle was last seen alive on Saturday, November 25.
Four days later, on Wednesday, the 29th, at about 11:30am, Deputies began investigating a missing persons report, they said.
That investigation led to the discovery of Mr. Mickle’s body, deceased, with multiple gunshot wounds, in the Town of Broome.
After further investigation, Deputies executed search warrants and an arrest warrant for:
Michael Todtschinder, 24, of Middleburgh, for second degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.
Walter J. Fahrenkopf, 39, of Fulton, for concealment of a human corpse, for his alleged part in Mr. Mickle’s death.
He reportedly assisted in concealing the corpse, Deputies said.
Mr. Todtschinder was located in Dalton, Pennsylvania and taken into custody with the help of the Pennsylvania State Police.
He was initially held in custody at the Lackawanna County Correctional Facility in Scranton, Pennsylvania, awaiting extradition to Schoharie County.
Mr. Fahrenkopf was arrested and processed at the Sheriff’s Office.
He was arraigned at the Schoharie County Centralized Arraignment Court and sent to the County Correctional Facility without bail.
An investigation into Mr. Mickle’s death is ongoing.
Anyone with any information can call the Sheriff’s Criminal Division at (518) 295-2217 or 295-2209 or email sheriffofc@co.schoharie.ny.us.
Mr. Mickle is remembered as a sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and a devoted family man.
He was a graduate of Schoharie Central School.
All are invited to a visitation with his family from 5-7pm tonight, Thursday, at the Coltrain Funeral Home, 134 River Street, Middleburgh.
In June, Mr. Todtschinder was convicted of reckless driving after Deputies said he refused to stop for them through several towns.
He was also convicted of reckless driving in May.
