A handful of local businesses and attractions are on the receiving end of state Regional Economic Development Council Initiative grant funding.
Statewide, more than $23 million was awarded to support 101 communities through part of Round XIII in REDC grants.
In Schoharie County, Empire State Development Craft Beverage Mico-Grant funding went to:
• Sauvage Beverages in Charlotteville, $50,000.
Sauvage Distillery is a local farm distillery specializing in the production of vodka called “Upstate,” which is made from apples sourced from local farms in New York.
The grant will allow Sauvage to purchase a lift to be able to move its product within the distillery more efficiently.
It will also be used to upgrade the road leading to the facility.
• Wayward Lane Brewing in Schoharie, $50,000.
The grant will allow Wayward Lane to purchase a proper canning line that will enable them to can their beer for sale in their tap room, farmers markets, events, and by distributors.
Grants from the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation went to:
• Cobleskill Agricultural Society, $480,000.
The grant will allow the CAS to complete repairs to the historic grandstands at the Fairgrounds.
Improvements will include repairs to the foundation, roof replacement, and structural repairs to preserve the building.
• Town of Wright, $500,000.
The OPRHC grant for the Gallupville House Renovation Project will be used to rehabilitate the 1872 Gallupville House to provide fully-accessible community space for cultural, arts, educational, and community meeting space.
ESD New York State Business Incubator Program funding went to:
• Center for Agricultural Development and Entrepreneurship (CADE), $625,000.
In 2015, CADE joined with SUNY Cobleskill—a first recipient of an incubator grant--to help grow more than 2,000 ag businesses.
Since then, its capacity has grown and while CADE will continue its partnership with the college, this is the first ESD incubator grant it’s been awarded on its own.
CADE “delivers innovative, relevant content through technical assistance, education, mentoring, partnerships, advocacy and research on: business and product development, access to capital, enterprise budgeting and financial planning, legal support, marketing R&D and planning, and producer-buyer matchmaking.”
ESD Market New York Funding went to:
• The Farmer’s Museum in Cooperstown, $100,000.
The grant will be used for Glimmer Nights, a new six-week holiday light show, that hopes to bring thousands of visitors to Cooperstown.
• National Baseball Hall of Fame, $232,500.
The grant will help the Hall of Fame launch a marketing initiative focused on Japanese baseball, coinciding with Ichiro Suzuki’s first year of eligibility for election into the Hall of Fame.
