The Village of Cobleskill will take some time before adding to the Fire Department’s fleet.
A manufacturer made a pitch last week for the village to buy two trucks, but instead, volunteers will design the trucks, Mayor Becky Stanton-Terk said Tuesday morning.
She said the Fire Department’s Truck Committee will have up to six months to design the trucks.
“They can see what they want in a truck,” Mayor Stanton-Terk said. “We want their thoughts on what’s best to serve the village.”
Price, she added, “is a huge factor.”
A representative from Sutphen Fire Apparatus last week recommended the village buy a new aerial truck and a mini-pumper for about $2.5 million.
Village officials should act by the end of the year before prices rise in 2024, the rep said.
Trustees originally scheduled a special meeting for this Friday, but now there’s no special meeting, Mayor Stanton-Terk said.
The Truck Committee will come up with designs that will be submitted to a range of manufacturers, and the village board will make the final decision, she said.
