Larry Caza sworn in as Schoharie County Clerk

As dozens of family and friends looked on, while still others attended virtually over Zoom, Larry Caza was sworn in as Schoharie County Clerk in New Year’s Day ceremonies Monday.
Schoharie County Judge Ryan McAllister performed the swearing with Father Peter Chepaitis OFM and Sister Anna Tantsits leading musical selections and prayer.
Mr. Caza, who is stepping down as Village of Schoharie mayor, was elected in November, replacing longtime County Clerk Indy Jaycox, who’s retiring.
Mr. Caza thanked Ms. Jaycox and her predecessor, Pete Lopez, for mentoring him and giving him “such a tremendous opportunity.”
“I’ve always liked celebrating transitions,” Mr. Caza said. “Whether it’s a child’s kindergarten, or suddenly a college gradation, or something like this, we do ceremonies to mark that next big step forward.”
Father Chepaitis told a quick story about bringing a man just released from prison into the DMV for a non-driver’s ID.
“Larry waited on us in person,” he said. “That man is doing well now…He was so blessed and impressed by your service to him.”
A reception in the lobby of the County Office Building followed Monday’s event.
