Mysterious package, white powder closes County Court

On Thursday, December 28 at 3:20pm, Schoharie County Dispatch received a report of a suspicious package received at the Schoharie County Court.
Members of the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Department responded and determined that the package was not in its original shipped condition and contained an unknown powdery substance.
The Schoharie County Court House was closed to the public, and the package was isolated in an office in the Court Building while further investigation was conducted.
The court remained closed Friday.
The Schoharie County Office Building was not impacted during the incident.
Court employees were evaluated by Scho-Wright Ambulance and Schoharie County EMS.
No employees required medical treatment.
The powder was determined to be a possible hazardous substance.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Schoharie County Fire Coordinator’s Office, Schoharie County Haz-Mat Team, Scho-Wright Ambulance, Schoharie County EMS, Schoharie Fire Department, Middleburgh Fire Department, and the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Office of Fire Prevention and Control Haz-Mat Team.
At this time, the incident appears to be an isolated incident and is under investigation.
