A Town of Sharon man has been charged with two counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree and two counts of criminal mischief, second degree, after Schoharie County Sheriff’s deputies said he stole two cars, crashing them both.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, at 6:33am Saturday, they responded to a call in the Village of Sharon Springs reporting a stolen car.
At the time of the call, deputies said, the Sharon Springs Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Gilberts Corners Road for a one-car accident with no one in the area of the vehicle.
The vehicle was determined to be the same one reported stolen.
Then, at 10:07am, deputies were advised by staff at Sharon Springs Central School that about 4:15am that morning, a vehicle had driven on school property and crashed in a ditch, causing substantial damage to that vehicle.
The vehicle was located nearby on Chestnut Street.
Upon speaking with the owner of the vehicle deputies determined it too had been stolen overnight.
Tuesday, deputies arrested Jason Lynk of Sharon, charging him with two counts of grand larceny fourth degree, a Class E felony, and two counts of criminal mischief in the second degree, a Class D felony.
He was arraigned in Schoharie County CAP court and released on pretrial services to appear in Town of Sharon Court today, Thursday.
